New Year. Same Me.

New year, New me. Sound familiar? At the turn of the every New Year people start making New Years resolutions to change themselves and make this year their best. Whereas these bold statements are great motivators, and I'm a firm believer in self improvement, I feel this might be a better way to start your year.  New Year. Same Me.

That's right, I'm not going to try and change myself this year, I'm pretty happy with who I am and where I am in life. This isn't a statement in arrogance, or the result of an over inflated ego. This is a statement that has taken time to adjust to. Over the past year, instead of trying to change myself, I've slowly learnt to love myself for who I am, and embrace it wholeheartedly.

You see, when you stop striving for perfection, or trying to become this ideal person you finally start enjoying life. When you're not worried about what people think, you don't really care if you're living up to other people's expectations, life becomes so much simpler.

Yes, there are still areas of myself I'd like to work on, like I said I love a bit of self improvement, but these aren't reasons to change myself. They're just a recognition of areas in life in which I know I am capable of more. Focusing on these is far better than chucking the whole lot out and starting again.

So instead I've decided on a few simple tasks that I can work on daily which will improve myself and my lifestyle, without any unsustainable, unrealistic resolutions.

Claire's 2017 Goals
+ Drink more water
+ Do the dishes before bed
+ Make the bed every morning
+ Take the bus, not the tube
+ Focus 10mins a day meditating on the Bible
+ Yoga 3x a week (at home)
+ Walk more

So this year, I encourage you to learn to love yourself rather than change yourself.
