7 things to do after you get engaged

That day has finally come. The fire works have flown, the one knees' been got down on, and there's a ring on your left hand. You're engaged! If you follow my blog, or any of my social media, it will have not have escaped you that I had also recently got engaged! I'd love to extend a huge congratulations to you, if you are in the same boat as me!

Getting engaged has to be one of the most exciting moments of my life, and I imagine it's the same for most people. However, with all the excitement comes the realisation of 'oh my, I have to plan a wedding now' and '...what do we do now?' is often asked.

Never fear, I've put together my top seven things now you are engaged!

1. Announce your engagement to your close family and friends.
It's so important to tell these special people in person, via call or text. They will want to share this special moment with you, and may be pretty bummed to find out second hand or via social media.

2. Announce your engagement on Social media.
Don't be afraid to get creative, we've all see the amazing Instagram photos, so take your time to think about how you wish to announce your exciting news. Checkout @theknot or @howheasked on Instagram for some inspiration.

Here's how we announced our engagement:

3. Insure your ring.
In the midst of all the excitement, this may seem like a very mundane task. But unless your hubby-to-be has thought ahead, it's so important to get your ring insured. Shop around for a good deal, or ask your jeweller for advice. Insurance will project you against any mishaps, should something happen to your new bling.

4. Discuss the location for your wedding.
If you're anything like me, you'll have decided this years ago. But if you're still not sure, take the time to consider your options with your partner. Do you want your big day at home with all the family? Or maybe a destination wedding is more up your street?

5. Begin your venue search.
Once you've decided on a location, start doing some research and booking viewings for venues. Wedding venues tend to get booked up a year in advance, so you have to be quick to insure you get your dream venue.

6. Celebrate with an engagement party!
This is the perfect opportunity to get everyone together to celebrate your exciting news, and show off the ring hehe. For me this was an important part of our engagement, as we don't live near our close family and friends, I wanted to make sure they all felt included in the celebrations!  This doesn't need to be a huge event, maybe a few drinks with close family and friends or an all out bash to start your wedding journey with all the trimmings!

7. Enjoy the moment.
Engagement is such an exciting time, and can become really overwhelming. As you start to think about planning the wedding itself it's easy to get caught up and carried away. Take time to really enjoy the moment with your partner and celebrate this special time. It will go much faster than you think!
